Position Overview:
The General Manager will oversee all aspects of gym operations, ensuring the facility runs efficiently and delivers a high-quality experience to members. This role involves managing staff, driving membership sales, maintaining the facility, and implementing strategies to enhance member satisfaction and retention. As the key individual responsible for the gym, the General Manager must always be available to respond to emergencies or critical issues, even outside of normal operating hours.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operational Management:
- Oversee daily operations, ensuring the gym is clean, safe, and well-maintained.
- Manage equipment maintenance schedules and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
2. Staff Leadership:
- Recruit, train, and supervise staff, including fitness instructors, personal trainers, and front-of-house team.
- Develop staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage during all operating hours.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing training opportunities.
3. Financial Oversight:
- Manage the gym’s budget, including monitoring expenses and revenues.
- Develop strategies to increase profitability, such as promoting personal training packages or retail products.
- Handle payroll and ensure timely compensation for all employees.
4. Membership Sales and Retention:
- Develop and implement marketing strategies to attract new members.
- Foster relationships with existing members to encourage retention and gather feedback for continuous improvement.
- Address member concerns and resolve issues promptly to maintain high satisfaction levels.
5. Program Development:
- Design and schedule a variety of fitness programs and classes to meet member interests and demand.
- Stay updated on industry trends to introduce innovative programs and services.
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of experience in gym general management, including managing wet areas (e.g., pools, spas, or saunas).
- Strong understanding of gym operations, including equipment maintenance and health and safety standards.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in budgeting and financial management.
- Must take full responsibility for the facility, including being on call 24/7 to handle emergencies, such as security alarms or urgent operational issues, regardless of the time.
